STUDENTS TECHNICAL SYMPOSIUM AND EXHIBITION 2024 IGNITES INNOVATION AND EXCELLENCE

The University of Uyo recently played host to an intellectual extravaganza during the prestigious Students’ Technical Symposium and Exhibition (STSE) organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Council. This annual event, aimed at inspiring innovation, transformation, and sustainability within Nigeria’s student chapters, was a resounding success from March 14 to 16, 2024.

Under the theme “Securing the Future of the Energy Industry: Maximizing Opportunities in the Petroleum Value Chain for Students and Young Professionals,” the 2024 edition of STSE attracted bright minds and future leaders in the energy sector. Over the course of three days, attendees were treated to a plethora of technical, professional, and panel sessions, along with captivating competitions that showcased the immense talent present in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

A highlight of the event was the fiercely competitive Petroquiz session, where teams from various universities battled it out for top honors. Ultimately, the teams from the University of Ibadan (UI), Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE), and the University of Uyo emerged as the Africa Regional Qualifiers. These exceptional teams are set to represent the continent at the prestigious Petrobowl competition in the United States, scheduled to take place from September 23 to 25, 2024.

In a show of appreciation, Igbinedion University Okada expressed gratitude to the SPE Nigeria Council for providing their delegates, including members of staff who served as Student Programs Co-Chair II and participants, with a unique platform to engage with and contribute to this enriching experience.

The 2024 STSE event not only fostered knowledge-sharing and networking but also paved the way for the next generation of energy industry leaders to hone their skills, exchange ideas, and propel innovation forward. As the legacy of STSE continues to inspire and empower students and young professionals, the future of the energy industry looks brighter than ever.
