IUO SET TO BEGIN DEGREE PROGRAMME IN QUANTITY SURVEYING.



The Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University,Okada, Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, has assured all of the University’s readiness to begin a degree programme in quantity surveying.
Disclosing this while playing host to the Board of Members of the Edo State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Professor Ezemonye noted that apart from being Professionals, all members of the Board were entrepreneurs, which is exactly the type of example that he would like for Igbinedion graduates to aspire to.
He expressed happiness at the Board’s readiness to assist the University in setting up the programme, adding that the Board would also help the university in sourcing personnel for teaching.
He said the involvement of the Institute of Quantity Surveyors in the creation of the programme would be of immense benefit when it comes to the professional accreditation of the Department at Igbinedion University.
The Vice Chancellor said he was excited to hear that the programme could be configured under the college of Engineering where a College of Environmental Science is non-existent.
The State Chairman of the Association, Quantity Surveyor Elizeus Ufuah, stated that to become a quantity surveyor, a degree or professional qualification accredited by the Nigerian Institute of Quantity surveyors was required. According to him, degree programmes in surveying, construction, civil engineering and structural engineering are considered relevant in the role of a quantity surveyor.
He added that without a degree and HND in the aforementioned courses, some employers might be prepared to find a part time degree booster course.
The Institute later presented both hard and soft copies of the syllabus of the programme to the Vice Chancellor.
