Facilities and Service on Campus

Works & Services Department

To sustain a culture of resource management and maintenance of infrastructure, the IUO has since inception maintained a deparment of Works Transportation and Services to attend to the maintenance of all infrastructure in the institution ranging from the administration building, lecture halls, student hostels, staff quarters and the institution beautiful landscape. Therefore all students are expected to seek the service of and comply with the directives of the dept of works in matters relating to;
i. Electricity: repair of electrical faults in hostel and classrooms etc.
ii. Plumbing: Repair/maintenance of water pipe, toilet fittings, bath fittings etc.
iii. Buildings: Building, renovation of hostels, classrooms.
iv. Environmental Sanitation: clearing of in and out of the hostel, classrooms.
v. Transportation: Provision of transportation for students to and fro hostel to classrooms
vi. Equipment/vehicle repair: Repair and maintenance of light and heavy duty vehicle/moving equipment, generators etc.

Furthermore, the department of works provide services to both the institution and its public in the areas of:
• Vulcanising of tyres,
• Wheel alignment and balancing,
• Greasing and lubrication of vehicles,
• Refilling of domestic gas and cylinders,
• Provision of electrolytes/charging of vehicle batteries,
• Fabrication and welding work,
• Repair of electronics appliances,
• Carpentry services and
• Laundry services.

Health Services

The Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital offers medical services to all students and staff. Students are enjoined to register with the hospital to ease consultation in case of emergency.

Banking Services

There are three major big banks at Okada town primarily to provide banking service the university and its students. The banks are ;
1. Intercontinental bank PLC
2. Zenith Bank PLC
3. Equitorial Trust Bank PLC
There is also the ABC Microfinance Bank of the Igbinedion University Okada, recently licensed by the Central Bank Of Nigeria. The Micro-Finance Bank is presently under the purview of the Bursar of the University, Mr. Nosa Edogiawerie.

University Bookshop

There is an ongoing arrangement to reopen the university bookshop.

Postal Services

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has an office located adjacent to the main gate of the Crown Estate. Students and staff of the institution are free to take a box address at the post office to receive mails. The post office also offers courier services for students who may need to send vital and urgent messages and can also receive same..

Internet Services and UMS

The university runs an ICT department to provide IT support service for the school, operation. However the primary internet service provider for the Institution is the IUO KarRox Ltd. The IUO KarRox Ltd is fully equipped with a C band Vsat and is being run as a business entity between the Igbinedion University Okada and UGRL-KarRox. IUO KarRox Ltd has its main office in the Administrativ Block and also Teaching Hospital complex of the University and operates three units located in the administration building, the boys hostel and the girls hostel. Each of the units is connected to the main station through microwave to provide internet service to students. Each centre runs a cybercafé with minimum of 50 Systems and 70 available connection port for laptop users. ICT Unit currently has a CampusCare (University Managment System) software that drive every aspect of the university system into full automation.

The University in partnership with UGRL-KarRox currently runs IT Academy programs in Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco and other IT certification areas at the ICT Academy Building.

Recreation

There are ample opportunities for students to refresh and unwind while on campus through;
1. Eateries
There are a number of eateries on campus for students. These include Danniels, Tee & Bee and the Student Café all situated in the Crown Estate.

2. Museum of fame
There is also the museum of fame where statues of our national heroes and heroines such as Chf. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Queen Elizabeth II, Chf Obafemi Awolowo, Hubert Macauley, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Tunde Ogbeha etc. are placed as a mark of recognition of their immense contributions to our national development. Students are encouraged to visit the place for leisure and relaxation.

3. Relaxation booths
The university also have a number of relaxation booths spread around the Crown estate for students to take time off and unwind.

Learning Resource Centre/ Library Service

The university has a standard electronic library situated in the central Administration building of the main campus. All the colleges also have their reference libraries for student’s research work and applied studies. The IUO main Library is situated on the ground floor of the Central Administration Building. The Library is equipped with an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) software with which over 3000 records have been retro converted and made accessible to students through its electronic database. The Library has also acquired in recent time a Strategic Library Automation Management (SLAM), software for the purpose of retro-converting its data from manual to electronic and as part of its program to upgrade its Information Technology platform.

Library registration Procedures
The annual library due is N300.00 (Three Hundred Naira only) and this is to be paid into the Library Account with Equitorial Bank PLC. The payment teller and two passport photographs are to be presented to the office of the Chief Librarian where an application form will be given. After duly filling and submitting the application form students will be issued an ID card to permit entrance into, and the use of library facilities. The ID card is renewed after every one year.

The GST111 courses which is a compulsory course for all year one students and those coming in through direct entry is an orientation course to guide students in the shelving pattern of materials in the library for easy access and usage. The Library also undertakes referral assistance to students i.e. students of the institution can be given letter of referral to other libraries within the institution and even to other libraries in any other institution. The IUO library operates Mondays to Saturdays. (8.00am – 6pm on weekdays and 8am – 4pm on Saturdays)

Human helps/Counselling service

The human help/Counselling Unit is located in the Administration Block of the University ground floor Room 123/124. This unit is available to all student and staff of the university to help them cope through counselling and other applicable help process in areas of personal, emotional and psychological challenges that may be inhibiting their dedication to work and studies. This unit is also responsible to provide sensitisation programs on HIV/AIDS, drug addiction, cultism, domestic violence, gender equity, preventable social vices such as rape, corruption etc.

Student Self Empowerment Program

The university runs a mandatory course on self empowerment for all students. It is a compulsory course which all students of IUO must pass as a prerequisite for graduation.

Parent Consultative Forum

There is also the Parent Consultative forum wherein all parents and guardians of Igbinedion University students meets with the university authority to discuss pertinent issues relating to students welfare, conduct and academic programs. The forum is a mandatory one for all parents and guardians to attend and as such students shall be held responsible should his/her parent not attend. The Parent Consultative Forum meeting comes up quarterly.
