Igbinedion University Okada marks the realisation of the dream of Sir, Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the
Esama of Benin kingdom, to bequeath to future generations a University with international standard where academic calendar is faithfully run without interruption.
The university came into existence following the presentation of a certificate of approval on the 16th of May 1999 by the Federal Government (Certificate No. 001). Thus Igbinedion University became the first licensed Private University in Nigeria. The foundation students arrived at Okada on Friday 15th October 1999. The university since then has without interruption upheld its desire to advance the frontiers of knowledge and reinstate the dignity and quality of university Education in Nigeria.
Since its inception, the Igbinedion University has been recognised as a major force in the Nigerian higher education scene through its high quality degree courses. The University continues to have extensive and rewarding links with industry commerce and a number of other prestigious Universities both at home and worldwide for the benefit of its students.
